Illustrated with B/W maps and photographs. Appendices and indices included. No markings of any kind on boards or pages. Tears on top corner and head, ragments of original price-sticker still on back of vol1 dust jacket. Sold as a set. fine With the help of his father, Rudyard Kipling's only son John enlisted underage with the Irish guards in 1914 and was killed in 1915 at the Loos. Kipling, who is thought to have blamed himself heavily for the death of his son took it upon himself to write a regimental history of the Irish Guards in the Great War as a "monument to his son's service". He lends the full powers of his decadent prose in this rich description of the battlefields and the fighting men who lived and died there.
