The Right Honorable Henry Lopes, 1st Baron Ludlow (1828-1899) was a Queen's Counsel, Justice of the Common Pleas, and Lord Justice of Appeal throughout his legal career. Author George Pitt-Lewis was of the Liberal Party and sat in the House of Commons from 1885 to 1892, almost exactly the duration of Lopes' time as Lord Justice of Appeal. Pitt-Lewis refers to Lopes as Lord Justice multiple times throughout their correspondence.
