Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. London: Quality Press Ltd., 1939 8vo., black publisher's cloth lettered in green to spine; preserved in the haunting black and green decorative jacket (unclipped, 8s. 6d. net); pp. [iv], 5-223, [i]; titles to spine rubbed, with some loss to lettering; light compression to spine tips; some mild spotting to outer edges and prelims; still a very good, fresh example, the dust jacket with a couple of small stains to lower panel, nicked and chipped along folds and spine; still also very good, retaining much colour. First edition. A comprehensive guide to the haunted religious buildings of Great Britain, with chapters divided primarily by County. Beginning with London and ending with a short chapter on haunted churches in America, the author devotes much of his time to the study of particular ghosts and encounters of the paranormal kind, which he has compiled together in one volume, and narrated with a particularly fervent quality. O'Donnell (1872-1965) wrote prolifically on ghosts, haunted houses, dreams, werewolves and superstitious activity. He was reportedly strangled by a mysterious phantom while in Dublin, although no long-term effects were ever apparent, and he died peacefully in his bed at the age of 93. 'Just the book for an evening at home' (Dust Jacket). .
