About this Item: Prentice-Hall, Inc, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, 1959. Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. Presumed First Edition, First printing. xii, [2], 271, [3] pages. DJ is worn, torn, soiled, chipped and price clipped and is in a plastic sleeve. Name in ink inside front cover. Mary Jane "Mae" West (August 17, 1893 - November 22, 1980) was an American actress, singer, playwright, screenwriter, comedian, and sex symbol whose entertainment career spanned seven decades, known for her lighthearted bawdy double entendres and breezy sexual independence. West was active in vaudeville and on the stage in New York City before moving to Hollywood to become a comedian, actress and writer in the motion picture industry, as well as appearing on radio and television. West was one of the more controversial movie stars of her day and encountered problems, especially censorship. After her cinematic career, she wrote books and plays and performed in Las Vegas, in the United Kingdom, on radio and television. When asked about the efforts to impede her career, she replied: "I believe in censorship. I made a fortune out of it." The future Diamond Lil was only seven when she made her first stage appearance. From spotlights to diamonds to sex, it is a scintillating legend in flamboyant showwomanship and incredible experiences. She became the Twentieth Century's sex goddess. She introduced the "Shimmy". She grew up to collect men. She won a permanent tribute to her sex appeal when the men of World War II nicknamed a lifejacket after her. This autobiography gives the reader the behind-the-headlines details of a glamorous star's spectacular life and career. Diffused through every page is her own special aliveness--her innate sense of humor and sex in people and situations. Seller Inventory # 76283

About this Item: Macfadden-Bartell (95-147) 1970 (c.1959), New York, 1970. Softcover. Condition: Near Fine. First Edition Thus. [nice tight copy, mild edgewear, light soiling to rear cover]. Mass Market PB (B&W photographs) SIGNED by Mae West, beneath her printed name, on the page facing the title page. A new "enlarged and revised" edition of the noted sex queen's autobiography, originally published in 1959, here republished to take advantage of her movie "comeback" in MYRA BRECKENRIDGE. The entirely new material consists of: Chapter 22 (entitled "My Full Story"), written by George Eiferman, to set the record straight about "certain distortions of facts" regarding Miss West's nightclub act of the 1950s, in which he was a participant; and Chapters 23 and 24, by Miss West, dealing respectively with the revival of interest in her career during the 1960s, and her experiences filming MYRA. I'm uncertain about whether revisions or additions were made to the main body of the text for this edition. Signed by Author. Seller Inventory # 24880
