First edition. First edition. Inscribed by the author on the title page: "To John Priestley with warm best wishes. Len Deighton, 15 Sept. 1977." Priestley is a prominent author and September 15th is celebrated annually as The Battle of Britain Day. With an introduction by A. J. P. Taylor, (1906-1990), prominent historian who specialized in 19th and 20th-century European diplomacy. He was both a journalist and a broadcaster. This book also received high praise from Albert Speer, Hitler's Minister of Armaments. The fight for Britain's survival told from both the British and German point of view. Fine bright copy in dust jacket. Deighton's signature is an uncommon one. An exceptional copy.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Deighton, Len. FIGHTER. The True Story of the Battle of Britain. London: Jonathan Cape, (1977). First Edition. A FINE copy in a FINE original priced dust jacket, virtually As New, still retaining its rich red topstain. Complete with photos, drawings, and detailed maps. With a wonderful inscription by the author, penned in black ink on Battle of Britain Day itself (the single most famous day and night of the air battle that saved Britain from Nazi conquest),: "To Harry/ With all my best wishes/ Len Deighton/ 15th September 1977/ To commemorate the Battle of Britain/ And your love of the Spitfire." The introduction by historian A. J. P. Taylor makes the case for FIGHTER being one of the most superbly detailed, accurate accounts of the Battle of Britain. In particular, the narrative focusing on the hasty but crucial development of the Spitfire fighter is a great example of Deighton's often epic ability to make military history come alive for the casual reader. Inscribed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. For people brought up to believe the mythology of the Battle of Britain created by wartime propaganda, this sobering account will come as a shock. This is a fine copy of Len Deighton's classic history. The dark blue cloth-bound boards are unmarked and there are no scratches dents or bumps; all edges straight, all corners sharp. The gilt lettering on the spine panel is as bright as new. The text block is tightly bound and the edges are spotless; the pink stain to the top edge has faded a little but is still clearly present. Internally all of the pages are clean with no inscriptions or any other signs of previous ownership. The dust jacket retains its original gloss and crispness; there are no tears, chips or excisions: the publisher's price (£4.95) is still in place. The vivid fire-engine red capitalised 'FIGHTER' on the front and back panels is bright and strong though it has lost a little of its vigour on the spine Please see five photos of this book and you would be welcome to ask for more if that would help.
