Frontispiece is a photograph of the author when young with his father.Being the second printing, the publisher has taken the opportunity to include 'Some Press Opinions' at the front of the book. Lovely thick pages which are mostly clean and crisp except for some foxing spots to margins of the back endpapers and heavy foxing to margins of the front endpapers. Front few pages have separated from the base of the front hinge. Cloth cover is rubbed along edges of the spine and threadbare on the corners.

The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. The spine ends and corners of the book covers have some bumping and rubbing. There is a very slight slant to the spine of the book. The text pages are clean and bright. There is a previous owner's bookplate on the front pastedown page, and the front endpaper has two previous owner's inked names. "Sir Edmund William Gosse CB ( 21 September 1849 16 May 1928) was an English poet, author and critic. He was strictly brought up in a small Protestant sect, the Plymouth Brethren, but broke away sharply from that faith. His account of his childhood in the book Father and Son has been described as the first psychological biography. His friendship with the sculptor Hamo Thornycroft inspired a successful career as a historian of late-Victorian sculpture. His translations of Ibsen helped to promote that playwright in England, and he encouraged the careers of W. B. Yeats and James Joyce. He also lectured in English literature at Cambridge." Autobiographical description of the development of the author's son and the relationship between the two, with black and white photograph fronticepiece. Very good, spine faded to brown, light wear, occasional foxing.
