Attractive geometric blind-stamped design to the boards with gilt titles to the front and bevelled boards. Spine a trifle toned.

BIRCH, John. EXAMPLES OF LABOURERS' COTTAGES, WITH PLANS FOR IMPROVING THE DWELLINGS OF THE POOR IN LARGE TOWNS. London: Edward Stanford, 1871. 8vo. Publisher's cloth. 38, 39-40, 38 pages, lithographic plates. Second edition. First published earlier in the same year, according to the preface this is th second edition. In addition to the usual single family cottages, there is an interesting tall tenement block, unexecuted, "for the poor of Liverpool." Th also appeared in the first edition of 1871, and is early for this sort of design. Most of the other designs were actually built in various parts of th country. Pagination is erratic at the end, but complete. Large engraved armorial bookplate of Hugh Cecil, Earl of Lonsdale on inside of front board. Rear inner hinge cracked.
