hardcover. Condition: Fair. This is the 1851 ed., subtitle : Revised and Adapted to the Course of mathematical Instruction in the United States; 370 p., plus a 15 p. "Table of Logarithms from 1 to 10,000" and a 45 p. "Table of Logarithmic Sines and Tangents for every Degree and Minute of the Quadrant." There are penciled markings on front paste down, the front end page has been torn away, and the former owner's name is written in pencil on the t.p. There are a few penciled notations in the margins of the appendices and back end page, Inserts are two fern fronds. Many diagrams accompany text. Paper is strong and only mildly age-toned though foxed. Text block is firm, but the front gutter is cracked and front board nearly detached. The thick yellow leather boards are bumped and scuffed and abraded along spine. The gilt lettering on black patch on spine is partially effaced. This volume deserves rebinding.

Tightly bound in full calf, rubs to spine, headcap has strip missing, rub to front upper corner. Corners worn but good. Black leather label shows bright gilt title. First free endpaper missing at front, 2nd has #87 in pencil. No other marks. Foxing, toning seen to some sections more than others. Small split to leather hinges, either side of headcap, otherwise solid binding.

Leather Bound. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. Revised Edition. Full calf with gilt title over black spine swatch (Davies' Legendre) and all edges marbled. The book is divided into several BOOK sections. Inscribed by the original owner (student) in pencil at the front free endpaper with an 1862 date. And there's a tiny, slightly obscured store sticker at the inside front corner (undoubtedly where the original owner purchased it in Huntingdon, PA). The front cover is loose and still attached. Moderate heavy cover edge and corner wear with a chip at the spine head. And there is heavy wear at the inside covers. Secure light to moderately rippled text block pages (else good) with clean pages, just mild foxing (except at the ends) and some pages creases. About 8 1/4 x 5 1/4. Scarce Civil War era science/mathematics text book in fair condition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Book.
