In addition there is a list giving the names and working dates of over two hundred makers of keyboard instruments which should be invaluable to owners and collectors. A very good copy with some very light soiling and wear to the covers. The text is very good with some heavy foxing to the margins of some of the pages and plates. There is a small bookplate at front. The jacket is very good with some soiling and wear. Postage extra.

Bookplate of Geoffrey Clegg Hutchinson Baron Ilford (British Conservative politician 1893-1974) who has initialled and pasted to the end pastedown an extract from an auction catalogue dealing with a two-manual harpsichord "identical with my harpsichord but in poor condition." The book is generally in good plus condition but it is apparent that it has been subjected to a damp atmosphere.

Born into the family that owned Heal"s, the London furniture store, he transformed its reputation by designing simple, functional, pieces that contrasted with the heavy Victorian style then in vogue. He was also known for collecting London historical ephemera, including records of tradesmen, goldsmiths, calligraphers, signboards and furniture makers.Illustrated with a frontispiece and sixty-five images on plates.
