This book seeks to challenge the static view of literary criticism prevalent during the Victorian age and explores the dynamic and ever-evolving relationship between criticism, theory, and the creative arts. The author traces how the focus shifted from artistic conformity to the expression of a creator's individuality, influencing the way we analyze works. Through illustrative examples, the author shows how artistic expression and interpretation have been at the core of aesthetic thought from Aristotle to Croce, and continue to shape our understanding and enjoyment of art today. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
