Bound in dark red cloth with gilt spine lettering and decoration. Each book with a frontis illustration on glossy paper; first nine by Will Foster; remaining three unattributed. Early detective fiction following in the Sherlock Holmes footsteps. Really great read if you are a fan of the evolution of detective stories. The original stories were published from 1910 to 1917 and this compilation was probably published around 1918. Titles in the series are: The Silent Bullet; The Poisoned Pen; The Dream Doctor; The War Terror; The Social Gangster; The Treasure Train; The Ear In The Wall; Gold Of The Gods; Exploits Of Elaine; The Romance Of Elaine; Guy Garrick; Constance Dunlap. Quite scarce in nice condition as a complete set. One page chipped with loss of some text; one page with edge tear and slight text loss; one page with small edge tear; previous owner bookplate at front of each book.
