Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. This First Edition and first printing hardback was published by Longmans in London in 1949. Both book and dust-jacket are in strong 'Very Good' condition - please refer to our photographs. The pages of text have survived over 70 years extraordinarily well and are certainly in 'Near Fine'. The book's cloth bound covers show fading of their dyed colour not in a uniform way but in a modern art blotchy approach. It's a mystery how. The cloth on the spine however is unaffected and the titles are in still bright silver gilt. The dust-jacket is an old fashioned thin plastic protective sleeve but it has worked well as the paper used for the jacket in 1949 Austerity England is very thin. The book has 166 numbered pages but no illustrations. The size of this paperback-sized book in inches is 7.5 x 5.0 and it weighs 0.23 kg. For lovers of Cold Comfort Farm . Flora Poste is back from page 1! As with all our sales of books within the UK, we only ever charge a flat standard delivery cost of £3.35.
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Panther. Granada Publishing. UK. 1973. Paperback. First edition. Stella Gibbons' 'Cold Comfort Farm' first published in 1932, remains her best known work. This paperback is in very good condition and looks unread with an unbroken spine. The covers are clean and bright with wonderful cover art. There is light creasing to the front bottom tip. The spine is bright, unfaded and complete. There is the lightest rub to one or two spots, hardly worth mentioning. The contents are a little age-toned otherwise clean and bright and unmarked. Not exlib and packed and sent with care.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First American edition (published in the UK in 1932). Illustrated by Charles Saxon. Boards a bit overall toned, very good or better in very good dust jacket with light toning on the spine and a small smudge on the front panel. A spectacularly sly and amusing novel about a suddenly orphaned gentlewoman forced to live among her hopelessly rustic extended family in the country. The novel is the genesis for the oft-repeated phrase: "There's something nasty in the woodshed." Basis for an underrated and delicious 1995 film directed by John Schlesinger, and featuring Kate Beckinsale in one of her earliest starring roles, with splendid support from Stephen Fry, Freddie Jones, Joanna Lumley, Ian McKellen, and several others. A surprisingly uncommon edition.
