An attractive edition of this insight into the mind of Louis Wain, who recently enjoyed a cinematic representation courtesy of Benedict Cumberbatch, in The Electrical Life of Louis Wain. Some toning to pages, a few minor repaired tears to for example title-page; covers a little worn at extremities with some minor rubbing, but overall very good. Book.

First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. Illustrated by Louis Wain and Others (illustrator). First Edition Thus. No Date given (but 1906 on bookplate) . Tan based Art Nouveau Floral decorated cloth boards with a blocked illustration of a Cat laughing at 2 dogs in muzzles (by P. W. Dickinson) , in duo tone on a third of the front cover. With black titling to the spine and gilt blocked titling to the front board. The rear cover is plain. The boards have a few light marks on the rear board, the head/tail of the spine are Slightly worn/bumped but without any chips, and the corners are rubbed at the tips only, the rest of the boards have a few small scratches but are overall clean and bright. The book is now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and looks VG+ overall. No dustjacket, probably as issued. The page edges are very lightly 'dusty' brown with a few light foxing spots. The endpapers are plain with a Sunday School Bookplate dated 1906 pasted onto the front pastedown - this has offset on the opposing page. Internally the book is VG, though all the pages are uniformly a very light brown - but I think this was the original colour of the pages rather than from the aging process. NO Inscriptions or Marks. 188 pp. (one closed tear to page 25/6 and a tiny loss to the blank edge of page 143). The book is divided into 2 Distinct Sections with various stories/tales/poems of Cats, then of Dogs, occasionally with both. First is the 'Cat' book = 88 pp. Then 'My Dog Book' = 87 pp. There is a full colour Frontispiece and the rest of the book is illustrated in b/w, with many illustrations having named artists like Louis Wain, R. A. Hunt, J. A. Walker, Dimma, Finnemore, - even a few 'live' kitten photos feature! . Louis Wain only features in the 'Cat' Section with 7 Full page (ascribed) b/w plates. There may be other vignettes by him but they are not 'initialled'. Overall, apart from the very minor 'faults' as noted above, this is a Very Clean, Tight and Bright Near VG plus copy of a Scarce title. See Images. ; Small 4to 9" - 11" tall.
