True first British printing with original unclipped jacket (21/-). Edited by Alan Dent. Index. Jacket has faults - namely a little patchy loss (mainly to head/tail of spine and to a couple of corners), heavy foxing, edge/shelf wear, few small tears, the odd mark, bumping to corners and a little patchy creasing/rubbing to edges. Boards are near fine (having been well protected by the jacket) with a hint of pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine. The binding is tight. End-papers a bit tanned and foxed. Occasional small mark to pages. Foxing to page edges, tops and bottoms. Top of pages little dusty. Pages bit tanned. No other faults. A solid copy. All books described honestly and accurately. Here are the letter interchanged - between 1899 and 1939 - by an intellectual giant and a great and beautiful actress, a pair whose brilliance of mind and of personality dominated the English-speaking stage for fifty years. The correspondence begins when Shaw was 42 and Mrs. Campbell 34. It concludes - rather 'fizzling out', as the greatest correspondence will - when Shaw was 83 and Mrs. Cambell was 74 and within a year of her death. The gaps in the correspoondence are curious and not easy to bridge.
