Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Dalí, Salvador (illustrator). SIGNED by the author of the introduction, Mark Burstein, on the contents page (dated "2025"). 102pp. Quarto [26 cm] Beige boards, with title stamped in black on spine. With trivial edgewear to the spine. In the illustrated dust jacket, with several barely perceptible traces of soiling. "Commemorating the 150th anniversary of one of the most beloved classics of children's literature, this illustrated edition presents Alice like you've never seen her before. Features rarely seen illustrations by Salvador Dalí that illuminate the surreal yet curiously logical and mathematical realm into which Alice famously falls. In an informative and wide-ranging introduction, Carroll expert Mark Burstein discusses Dalí's connections with Carroll, his treatment of the symbolic figure of Alice, and the mathematical nature of Wonderland. In addition, mathematician Thomas Banchoff reflects on the friendship he shared with Dalí and explores the mathematical undercurrents in Dalí's work." Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Signed by the author on the title page. From letter at start of book: The wide range of Civil War cartoons. collected provides, I think, a good cross-section of those typical of that time, and they are very revealing of the attitudes toward Lincoln. As we all know, caricaturists found in him an ideal subject for ridicule, for homely jest, and for praise. He was the butt of rancor, sarcasm and abuse not only in the South, but more astonishingly in the Northern press and in England. Northern weeklies account for most of these 175 graphics. About one-fourth are from the pens of two Englishmen who never met him. The rest are campaign posters or such smuggled cyanide as the half dozen or so reproduced here from the stylus of the Baltimore dentist, Adalbert Volck. Unpaginated but approx. 80 pages. Trade edition; no stated publishing history so presumed first edition, first printing thus. This is a used book. Pages are clean and bright with no markings, notes, or highlighting. Covers show only minor shelf wear and are not creased. No owner's marks or bookplates, not ex-library. Binding is tight and square. Hinges are secure. Remnant of price sticker on front cover. Corners very lightly bumped. Signed by Author(s).
