Gold was discovemred in the Yukon in august of 1896. The rush was on! These early inset maps reflect the attention given to gold by the compilers of this map. The Klondike district had Dawson at its center. More than 100,000 men populated the area by 1899. They scoured the areas in the maps staking claims of good fortune. Their outcomes on average were disappointing. These maps including the map "Alaska" were made at the height of interest in gold. This contemporary artifact could be titled "The Gold Map.".
