"Airline Detective is the inside story of a new type of international crime written by the first man to organise the fight against it. The use of high speed aircraft by commercial airlines has opened up an immense field of opportunity for the international criminal. .When a crome, involving theft or murder, occurs on the airlines, the problem is - who is responsible for the investigation and which country is in a position to try the criminal? .Ian Fleming, in a Foreword, has described the chapters in this book as "some of the best I have ever read in any language on Police work. Now that Donald Fish has retired and is free to tell some of his stories, the reader can be pretty certain he is getting the real stuff." Introduced by Ian Fleming --- Original grey papered boards, lettered red on spine. Yellow illustrated dustwrapper - back wrap news excerpts - slight tear top edge front wrap, now closed. Now protected. Pp. 224 including Foreword (by Ian Fleming), List of Illustrations (10).

An account of the exploits of B.O.A.C. security chief Mr. Donald "Flying" Fish and his roving aide Douglas Buchanan; the airline detectives, intent on cracking international gold and diamond smuggling operations. It was Fleming's fourth book related to illicit trading, following 'Diamonds Are Forever','The Diamond Smugglers' and 'Goldfinger', although his contribution here was limited to essay-length. Fish had known Fleming since the mid-fifties, when the pair had attended two Interpol conferences in Istanbul and Vienna. 'Airline Detective' was written with the assistance of John Pearson, who was Fleming's aide at The Sunday Times, and was serialised in that newspaper. Pearson later became the first biographer of Ian Fleming. Gilbert B2a(3).
