This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book is an amended and somewhat shorter version of my doctoral thesis which I submitted to the Australian National University in 1976, and subsequently edited at the Netherlands Interuniversity Demographic Institute in 1977. The work falls naturally into two parts. The first is concerned with the construction and validation of a model, and the second with its application as an experimental tool. In the first part, comprising Chapters One to Four, an examination of historical and contemporary models of population growth led to the decision to study changes in fertility by means of a biological micro simulation model. The reasons supporting the choice of such a model were discussed, and a search of the literature produced the data to be used as model input. The effects of varying the input were examined and then the model output was tested against Hutterite data. The main emphasis of the second part of the work, comprising Chapters Five to Seven, was the testing of the effect on the fertility of one society of variations in the duration of the post partum period of non-susceptibility to conception, and in the level of infant and child mortality. Further simulations were performed to discover the impact on fertility of the use of contraception to attain different family sizes, both with and without the additional effect of infant and child mortality. 232 pp. Englisch.

However, the high degree of experimental sophistication reached in the past decade has made more apparent the role of open shell structures in chemical research. A parallel phenomenon can be observed in the development of SCF theory, where closed shell molecular calculations at any level of complexity compose the main body of references which can be obtained in Quantum Chemistry today. Besides the linkage between experimental and theoretical behaviour, there are, obviously, other reasons which can be attached to a lack of molecular open shell calculations. Among others, there was no connec tionbetween closed or open shell theoretical treatments. In this manner, many computational features used by closed shell connoisseurs have not been extended to other computational areas. Since the work of Roothaan in 1960, the open shell molecular landscape has been, the oretically, a very closed one. Further development of SCF theory, which has led to an outburst of multiconfigurational procedures, has paid no, or very faint, attention to the interconnection between these SCF theory advanced features, the open shell framework and closed shell common practice. A good theoretical goal, generally speaking, and in particular inside SCF theory, may consist of a procedure which can be used to solve a given chemical problem, within the physical and approx imate limits of the theory. 224 pp. Englisch.

For airlines, because the level of international air fares and rates forms one of the bases of their profit-making ability. For Governments, because they, as the guardians of the interests of both the airlines and the consumers, have the task to strike a just balance between those interests. International air fares and rates are of two kinds: scheduled and non-scheduled. The International Air Transport Association (lATA), the trade association of the world's scheduled international airlines, determines, under Governmental supervision and control, uniform fares and rates for scheduled international air services. These services account for approximately seventy-five percent of total international air traffic. The remaining twenty-five percent consists of non scheduled, or charter international air services. In this book, which is directed toward upper-division and graduate level students in engineering and mathematics, we have selected for discussion subjects that are traditionally found in numerical analysis texts. But our choice of methodology rejects the traditional where analysis and experience clearly warrant such a departure, and one of our primary aspirations in this work is to equip the reader with the wherewithal to apply numerical analysis thinking to nontraditional subjects. Whereas insect physiology has tended to receive ample attention from reviewers, the same has not always been true for the more biochemical aspects of insect research. No attempt has been made to cover all aspects of insect biochemistry, but rather a few topics have been selected which seemed to us to merit a review at the present time. The need for multicountry business and tax information was felt simultane ously. Language difficulties, scarcity of legal and other sources, distance and, most of all, the novelty of business expansion in this direction made such information still more necessary than in the European or inter American setting. A few symposiums were held, corporate and tax laws were translated, research studies were initiated, among which the book of Mr and Mrs SIIILLING on Doing Business in Saudi Arabia and the Arab Gulf States, a rich mine of general business information. I was therefore very pleased when Mrs CLERIN, completing her tax studies at Ecole Superieure des Sciences Fiscales in Brussels, mentioned that she was going to live in the Middle East, had the opportunity to work with a well-known international accounting firm and proposed to focus her final dissertation at the School on the tax planning of operations in Arab countries.
