In 1876, the 22 year-old Ami Frank Mulford left his home in Corning, New York and headed west, joining the Seventh Cavalry at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He became a trumpeter in M Company and campaigned in 1877 against the Nez Perce. While scouting, he was thrown from his horse and left permanently paralyzed in his legs. The second edition was lauded by Custer historian Dr. Don Rickey for its fine detail of army and cavalry life in the West. A fun collectible for both content and its binding.
