Leather binding. Condition: Near Fine. James Valentine photographer (illustrator). 1st Edition. Full leather binding with Royal warrant title in gilt to the cover. Silk covered end papers all edges gilt. All hinges excellent with no cracking. Slight scuff marks as pictured to the rear cover. Thick card pages have some light foxing and the occasional small stain. This is an Album of 46 Silver Gelatin photographs by James Valentine the famous founder of the company that bore his name. I believe the album would have been put together around 1870 as he acquired his Royal Warrant in 1868. Photographs include Princes St Gardens and Scott Monument, Edinburgh Castle from the Grassmarket, Holyrood Place, John Knox House, Kelso from the Tweed, Melrose, Dryburgh Abbey, St Catherines window, Abbotsford and interiors, Cora Castle on the Clyde, Bothwell Castle, The Falls of Clyde, Loch Lomond, The Swan Island, Tarbet, Inversnaid Falls, Loch Katrine and the boat pier, The old bridge at Gary etc etc.

Printed with a Pratt-Albion handpress on Magnani damped handmade 160 gsm paper. Housed in a red cloth covered portfolio box. This is the Loney's fiftieth limited edition book. In the introduction Loney discusses his printing career and the types used by his presses. He opened Hawk Press in 1975. Later there was Black Light Press and Holloway Press (with Peter Simpson at the University of Auckland). Since 2004 Electio Editions has been Loney's imprint. This edition is a type specimen book with examples of the types in use by the press. Included is a new press mark for Electio Editions, designed by Deirdre Hassed. In addition to the specimens, there are illustrations throughout, some in color.

The Cloth on the spine is peeling off Covers are worn but readable . The internals are still bound with intact end papers. The Fep has two circular pasted labels for Rassmussen's pills "Denmark Vitality Pills " and a Gold medal award. 10 Pages of advertisements at the rear. No Foxing. Internally fine but with one loose page which is a picture of Rassmussen's premises it has no page number and i am not sure that it is part of the original book. This Danish herbalist is an interesting player in the development of medicine and natural therapies in Australia. His cures often include Australian ingredients . It is a book cures and Herbal Meteria Medica which lists the uses of various herbs . Early Australian medical guide with remedies based on native plants. Rasmussen, "the celebrated Danish herbalist", emigrated to Australia in 1879. He practised in Paddington and later in Sydney. Ford notes that his Alfaline remedies were still being advertised in his name in 1958. Includes index.

When opened, the clamshell box reveals Works, which is cased in with real cloth and foil stamped. Works is printed 5-color with varnish on 140gsm matt art. Essays, also printed 5-color on 160gsm uncoated stock with matt machine varnish, is placed in a paper tray which is the same size as the clamshell box. The slipcase appears to be made of rich texture cloth and the contrast provided by the blue foil stamping fashions a very handsome package. Australian artist Victor Majzner has held over 50 solo exhibitions in Australia and New Zealand, as well as participated in many group exhibitions. He is committed to developing the Jewish Art. Victor explores and deals with the current environmental threats of trees. The base of the spine is bumped but the top edge is excellent. Light bumps to the bottom fore corner. Missing folding map.
