Book
Joseph Schindelman (illustrator). Early reprint (probably circa 1970; no edition/printing statement provided upon copyright page but with four-line rear colophon). [12], 162, [2] pages. Hardcover: H 24cm x L 15.25cm. Dust jacket rubbed, soiled, and stained with tears and wear at edges; 4.5cm curled tear at lower front flap fold; front flap retains publisher's $3.95 printed price; nine digit SBN at rear panel's lower right. Brown cloth spine with muted gilt stamping; some soiling to cream colored boards. Green endpapers but with usual discoloration to pastedowns; top corner of pages 5-6 creased from past fold-down with slight foxing to pages 4-8; interior pages are otherwise clean. Binding is firm. A very good copy in a good+ dust jacket. This early printing features Joseph Schindelman's original illustrations depicting the Oompa-Loompas (specifically pictured upon pages 72, 74, and 82) as African pygmies per Dahl's characterizations. However, spurred by protests brought on by the production of the 1971 film adaptation, Dahl issued a revised edition in 1973 in which he deleted the African references and altered the Oompa-Loompas appearance so that they became white hippies. Book
Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. Joseph Schindelman (illustrator). Revised Edition-" First published in 1964 with whimsical illustrations by Joseph Schindelman, Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory became an instant classic. Now this special commemorative edition brings back Schindelman's beloved original illustrations. Perfect for old fans and new fans alike, it's sure to become a treasured family favorite. Review: For the first time in a decade, Willy Wonka, the reclusive and eccentric chocolate maker, is opening his doors to the public--well, five members of the public to be exact. The lucky five who find a Golden Ticket in their Wonka chocolate bars will receive a private tour of the factory, given by Mr. Wonka himself. For young Charlie Bucket, this is a dream come true. And, when he finds a dollar bill in the street, he can't help but buy two Wonka's Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delights--even though his impoverished family could certainly use the extra dollar for food. But as Charlie unwraps the second chocolate bar, he sees the glimmer of gold just under the wrapper! The very next day, Charlie, along with his unworthy fellow winners Mike Teavee, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, and Augustus Gloop, steps through the factory gates to discover whether or not the rumors surrounding the Chocolate Factory and its mysterious owner are true. What they find is that the gossip can't compare to the extraordinary truth, and for Charlie, life will never be the same again. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, another unforgettable masterpiece from the legendary Roald Dahl, never fails to delight, thrill, and utterly captivate.".
