Cloth binding with gilt lettering on spine. No DJ. Ex library. Library stickers on outer and inner front board, both torn in attempt to remove them, binding sunned, bumped and chipped, discoloration and damp stains to front and back boards, pages clean, hinges tight. This is a highly important book about the Russian monetary system preceeding, during and after the revolution. In the preface the author writes: 'The book is devoted to a brief description of the monetary system which prevailed in Russia prior to August, 1914, the changes in this system produced by the War and by the Revolution of 1917, the endeavours of the Soviet Government to introduce a State economy on Communist lines and to do away with money, the work of financial reconstruction which commenced in 1921, and finally, to a description of the measures which followed and brought the monetary circulation of Soviet Russia to its present age.' The book first appeared in Russian in 1924. It was then translated into English with a European audience in mind, with parts believed to be of little interest to English readers removed and contextual information about the Russian economy added. Thus, this is the first English edition of one of the first economic treatises to come out of Russia after the revolution of 1917, written by Yurovsky, the economist who masterminded the Russian currency reform of 1922-24. A good copy of a very rare book of great historical importance.
