Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, written likely in the early 1800s, presents a revolutionary idea that challenges the prevalent belief in nature as a benevolent force that heals disease. The author argues that the body's reaction to illness is not guided by intelligence but rather by necessity, and that nature's actions can often be harmful or even deadly. The author supports this theory by examining various forms of fever, demonstrating how nature's attempts to expel toxins or reduce inflammation can lead to dangerous complications. They also discuss the role of nature in other diseases, such as rheumatism, gout, and epilepsy, arguing that it often fails to alleviate suffering or prevent serious consequences. The author's insights challenge conventional medical wisdom and emphasize the importance of understanding the underlying mechanisms of disease. By recognizing the limits of nature's healing abilities, physicians can develop more effective treatments and interventions, ultimately improving patient outcomes. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Original Wrappers. Condition: near Very Good binding. 12mo. 111 pp., frontis. First edition. As issued, stitched and in stiff wrappers with printed paper title label on the front. A bit of wear and sunning to the spine; contents are lightly and evenly toned throughout; previous owner name on the front free endpaper otherwise clean. A novel set during the Civil War, this appears to be Tunstall's only literary endeavor. Though it garnered enough of an audience to warrant being issued in three editions over the decade. Haynes's catalog identifies two editions issued in 1884, one by Carlton McCarthy, the other published by Randolph & English, both Richmond publisher's. We hesitantly posit that McCarthy is the first edition as it is the edition listed in Wright. A third edition was issued in 1890. All editions are fairly uncommon in commerce. Wright III, 5596; Haynes 18772.
