This is a portfolio containing 12 B&W lithograph prints illustrating sculptures by Alexander Weygers. Flat-signed by the artist on the portfolio interior in a neat black ink hand. Each print on stiff card stock and lithographed by Outlook Printing & Publishing Inc. Print size, 14 x 11 inches. Prints generally undamaged and with sharp corners. The portfolio itself with noticeable wrinkling and wear around the vertical edges, but remains intact. Portfolio size, 16 x 12 inches. A Very Good set of lithographed plates in a Good Minus portfolio. Scarce in any condition. 12 oz. Alexander George Weygers [1901-1989] was a polymath Dutch-American artist who is best known as a sculptor, painter, print maker, blacksmith, carpenter, philosopher, mechanical engineer, aerospace engineer and author. Before 1940 his work was included in the collection of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. and was recognized as an artist of national significance. He carved directly in stone or wood without benefit of sketches, models or measuring devices. The works shown in this portfolio were hewn from solid material with the artist's own hand-forged tools. He spent the last two decades of his life at his retreat in the Carmel Valley, Monterey Peninsula, that served as home and studios. This portfolio of sculptures was published in Carmel.
