First Edition illustrated stapled chapbook, yellow & black covers, 20 pp. A non-fiction study by the author of "A Haunted House & Other Stories." The Rennes-le-Chateau in southwest Spain is the site of one of the world's great mysteries. A poor country priest became wealthy when he discovered coded documents linking the location to the Ark of the Covenant, Jesus, Mary Magdalen, UFOs, and whatnot. Weighell's book links the Holy Grail to a strange "Satanist" painting. Another rare item from Pardoe. This copy has a bit of rust on the staples, else a fine, unread, unmarked copy.

As well, 'The Irregular Casebook' (the 1st edition, published by Ash-Tree Press) is reviewed by Chris Senior on page 34 of this issue. A fine copy in wrappers. This is the only appearance in print of this interview, it has not been reprinted.

All issues of this book (26 deluxe lettered and 199 numbered hardcover copies) sold out very rapidly. A fine copy without dust jacket, as issued. Child of the Dawn is a tale of occult conspiracy and adventure with Aleister Crowley & his followers. The inspiration for the novel is Crowley's account of receiving a trance message from a demonic spirit, which led him to write "The Book of The Law". One of the instructions given to Crowley was that he should steal a certain magical plaque, the Stelé of Revealing, from Cairo Museum, and set it up in its 'proper place' in an act which would promote the advent of 'A New Age'. In Child of The Dawn we have a heady combination of a fast-paced adventure narrative, a tale of ritual magic and a chilling glimpse into the horrifying fantasy world evoked by the opium dreams of Poe and De Quincey. Rosemary Pardoe, an expert on M. R. James and editor of the journal "Ghost and Scholars", summarizes the novel as "Indiana Jones meets H.P. Lovecraft".

Partially autobiographical, it deals with what might be called the 'Silurian Hypothesis' - the idea that another intelligent species existed on earth before humans evolved. Evidence is slowly uncovered to prove this hypothesis, as we travel nostalgically through the Sixties and Seventies, spending a lot of time hanging out in used bookshops, listening to psychedelic music and investigating the occult. Along the way we meet characters who are (and are not) Austin Osman Spare (Alphonsus Gaunt), Aleister Crowley (Nicholas Hallam), Dennis Wheatley (Hector Campion) and many others. Highly recommended on many levels.

The author's second published book, preceded by THE EMPTY HOUSE [1986], but vastly scarcer. The story was commissioned by The Northern Musgraves Sherlock Holmes Society and was published and presented to members attending the society's 'Aspects of Holmes' weekend on 28 March 1992.

This book was limited to one hundred copies, however only fifty copies of the sheets were actually bound by the publisher, of which only 22 were made available for public sale. An antiquarian ghost story written specifically for this publisher. Summers, a scholar, comes to Venice to research the life of Sigisomondo Mortensa, the 16th-century architect who designed the Church of Saint Bartholomew. As he studies the marginalia in various books in Mortensa's library, Summers uncovers the horrific truth about Mortensa's relationship with Antonio Borsini, a young apprentice who vanished mysteriously during the church's construction after being publicly denounced for his participation in blasphemous activities. A fine copy. A lovely example of hand letter press book in a fine binding. (20244).
