Black and white glossy photo, very good, sheet:17 x 24 cm.,image ca. 13 x x 23 cm., verso date: "Jan 23 1975," vertical English capton, clean & solid. * RARE & ORIGINAL HISTORIC PHOTOGRAPH SELDOM FOUND * . *** *** *** . . A RARE ORIGINAL PRESS PHOTO & TYPED CAPTION OF . . . DENG SHAOPING . . . EARLY SUPPORTER OF "HONG WEI BING" or "CHINESE RED GUARDS" . . * This is an excellent photo of Deng Xiaoping. It was taken at the very beginning of the "CULTURAL REVOLUTION" ["WEN HUA DA GEMING"] 1966-1974] and the beginning of the HONG WEI BING [RED GUARDS]. . * Balance of the photo text/caption reads: "Tang [DENG Xiao-ping], already vice premier of china, thus emerges as one of the half dozen most powerful persons in that country. He is considered a moderate who favors good relations with the West. [AP Wirephoto] [as70935fls] 1975 See AP AAA Wire Story." Balance of the photo verso shows "RSL" & "33537," with red ink stamped: "JAN 23 1975." . *** DENG Xiaoping [1904-1997] He was a Chinese politician and reformist leader of the People's Republic of China who, after Mao Zedong's death, led his country towards a market economy. While Deng never held office as the head of state, head of government or General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (the highest position in Communist China), he nonetheless was the "paramount leader" of the People's Republic of China from 1978 to 1992. As the core of the second-generation leaders, Deng shared his power with several powerful older politicians commonly known as the Eight Elders . He had a great influence on the "CULTURAL REVOLUTION" ["WEN HUA DA GEMING"] and also on the "RED GUARDS" ["HONG WEI BING"]. . Deng was instrumental in China's economic reconstruction following the Great Leap Forward in the early 1960s. His economic policies, however, were at odds with the political ideologies of chairman Mao Zedong. As a result, he was purged twice during the Cultural Revolution, but regained prominence in 1978 by outmaneuvering Mao's chosen successor, Hua Guofeng. . Inheriting a country fraught with social and institutional woes resulting from the Cultural Revolution and other mass political movements of the Mao era, Deng became the core of the "second generation" of Chinese leadership. He is considered "the architect" of a new brand of socialist thinking, having developed "socialism with Chinese characteristics" and led Chinese economic reform through a synthesis of theories that became known as the "socialist market economy". Deng opened China to foreign investment, the global market and limited private competition. He is generally credited with developing China into one of the fastest growing economies in the world for over 30 years and raising the standard of living of hundreds of millions of Chinese. . *** Color photos are posted to our website. . *** REFERENCES: .
