Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Sparse Grey Hackle pseud (MILLER, Alfred W.) [223] pp. Crown Publishers, Inc. 1971 9 1/4" x 6 1/2" A rich and varied treasury of superb stories and articles by the acknowledged Dean of American Fly Fishermen. It memorably records the perils and rewards, the delights and disappointments of a lifetime of sporting days and nights on the stream. There is lighthearted philosophy and profound insight into the character of fishermen and campers. There are hilarious pieces such as Who Is Sparse Grey Hackle? and The First Camping Trip, and starkly vivid recollections of the terrors of night fishing. Famous fly-fishing stories such as The Lotus Eaters and Murder are here, along with warm memories of chance meetings along the stream and moving reminiscences of such famed anglers as Edward R. Hewitt and George M. L. LaBranche; and there are practical and provocative articles such as The Perfect Angler and Minor Mysteries. Most, perhaps, there is a deeply evocative account of the fun of fishless days.
