An Original Handwritten and Signed Arthur Sullivan Music Index Page by Composer Sir Arnold Bax, Composer Alexander Brent Smith, Composer Edward Roberts and Soprano Elsie Suddaby at Worcester Three Choirs Festival 1923. Sir Arnold Bax 1883 - 1953 was an English composer, poet, and author. His prolific output includes songs, choral music, chamber pieces, and solo piano works, but he is best known for his orchestral music. In addition to a series of symphonic poems, he wrote seven symphonies and was for a time widely regarded as the leading British symphonist. Alexander Brent Smith Composer 1889 - 1950. An articled asst to Sir Ivor Atkins at Worcester Cathedral for 2 years, followed by an appointment as Director of Music at Lancing College from 1913 to 1934, succeeding W H Ferguson. He then returned to Gloucester and engaged in writing, speaking and composing, becoming President of the city's Music Club. His writing included a volume of essays, work on Schubert, features for The Musical Times and the composition of concertos, songs and light operas. Elsie Suddaby 1893-1980 was a British lyric soprano, Edward Roberts Welsh Composer. Size is 250mm x 163mm. In good condition. Age toning and a few repaired nicks to edges. Ref 19050. 12mo, 2 pp. 34 lines. Text clear and complete. Fair, on lightly-aged paper. He received Walford's manuscript and 'did free my spirit, as I promised I would, without loss of time'. The matter is now in the hands of the printer of the Daily Telegraph, who, 'at the time of going to press, is master of of the situation, and often delays, from night to night, giving a place to our best-loved paragraphs.' Turner marked his copy with 'a mem to the effect' that it should be shown to 'Mr. Arnold'. He has not seen Arnold since he wrote the piece, as he is working 'away from the office', but he knows he is 'very anxious' to 'have the thing printed'. Turner has given it the title 'Our National Anthem'. Ends by praising Walford's 'material'.

Edward Heron-Allen FRS (18611943) was an English polymath, writer, scientist and Persian scholar who translated the works of Omar Khayyam. He also published a translation entitled The Lament of Baba Tahir (1901) from a little-known Persian dialect, Luri.
