South Asia trade in the era of economic reforms with special reference to India/K.A. Rasure. The signing of the GATT accord by 120 countries at Marrakesh on the 15 of April 1994 is possibly the greatest endeavour towards human accord in the second half of the twentieth century just as the founding of the United Nations was the greatest achievement of the first half of this century. Thus establishment of the World Trade Organization (WTO) which is the embodiment of the result of Uruguay Round held during a long period of about eight years from 1986 to 1994 is possibly a mighty big event in international economic scenario. This new apex body equipped with the legal authority and provisions for enforcing the commitments rules and norms came into existence on first January 1995. It professes trade liberalisation through an open rule based and non discriminatory multilateral trading system which provides greater trade flows for ail its participating members thereby ensuring fair distribution of the fruits of global economic development. This young institution having 148 countries as its members at present and governing 95% of the global trade emerged as the third economic pillar of worldwide dimension next to the IMF and the IBRD. This biggest international trading organisation helps in implementing the past negotiations initiating periodic review of the trade policy and settling the trade disputes among its member countries. Evolution of a free trading environment for the movement of goods and services is its objective based on the assumption that free trade is an optimal modality of global welfare. The underlying principles of the WTO are transparency and provision by member of national treatment and most favoured nation treatment to all the members. In this book the scholars present their diverse and deep analytical sometimes critical viewpoints on WTO as an organization presenting challenges and offering development and growth opportunities to India. The effects of WTO on Indian economy services agriculture manufacturing small scale industries multinational corporations exports foreign direct investment etc. all have been studied by our scholars as well. It is hoped that this book will prove useful to the students and scholars of Indian economy. 188 pp.

The project on Status of Rural Women Workforce The Changing Socio Economic Scenario (A study based on Jaunpur district) is planned formulated and executed to measure the status of rural women workforce and to suggest some special policy measures to improve the status of the section in question in changed scenario which is characterized as globalization. This study will use latest and accepted world wide parameters to measure the socio economic status named as GDI and GEI. Value of GDI and GEI is very low which means various efforts like legislations welfare measures different efforts related to social economic and political empowerment have had little impact on socio economic status of rural women workforce. GDI is low because of different gender differentials mentioned in the study in detail exist in the society. It was shocking that not only society's attitude but women's attitude is also against women. GEI is also very low for this traditional restrictions and religious bindings are responsible no doubt but even women are not ready to change their attitude towards decision making process. It is true that due to male domination in most of the cases they are not free to take decision even they are working and have own earning but in most of the cases I found during field work that they are not ready to take any initiation in the name of Sanskar and because of the feeling that Pati is Parmeswar. Man and woman both should be treated as an individual with their separate identity and dignity. For achieving these objectives the attitude of society must be positive and enriched with scientific temperament. It is possible only by the best system of quality education since very beginning classes. If it is so then Indian traditions can be modernized and made useful for the society in this new changed socio economic scenario. To make this project work more useful for students and academicians some extra chapters named human development indices a detailed study policies and programmes for women development constitutional measures for women development and women welfare in different Five Year Plans have been included in this book. 252 pp.
