TOGETHER WITH an original essay by MAURICE SENDAK in appreciation of Peter Rabbit, 23pp + colophon, hand sewn into printed paper wrappers. The whole boxed together in a grey cloth folding case blocked with the same image on the front cover as that which was originally used on the cover of the privately printed first edition. Mint copy. This set represents new impressions from the 34 surviving original printing plates (of 43 images) financed by Beatrix Potter and her family in producing the original private first edition of Peter Rabbit (1901). They were used only one other time (for the 2nd privately printed edition, 1902) and then put away for nearly a century until their existence came to light a few years ago.
