Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Scarce two volume set, complete with fold-out chart in pocket to rear of vol ii. Dedicated by the author on first blank to Mr Gannendro (sic) Mohun Tagore "with Christian honour and love" and dated May 14 1855. Gnanendramohan Tagore was the first Asian to be called to the Bar in England, in 1862, and had converted to Christianity in 1851. In turn, Tagore has added his own dedication, dated 22nd September 1870, passing the book on to [John] Franklin Gell, grandson of the author. The attractive bookplate of Franklin Gell's elder brother, Philip Lyttelton Gell, Oxford University Press editor and President of the British South Africa Company (among much else) to front pastedown. Thereafter all is in general good order with stock a little toned and occasional foxing, but for the most part all is clean and bright. There is a little staining to boards and endpapers of vol.i but this does not intrude upon the pages. Vol.ii is also in good internal order, with most pages unopened. Cloth backed fold-out chart, presenting the "Four corresponding series of prophecy successively given in the Apocalypse" is in VG order with just a little dulling to some of the folds of the chart. Presented in uniform blue cloth, blind embossed, with gilt titling to spines. Some wear and bumping to edges, a little marking and darkening to spines. Hard to find in anything other than a modern reprint, an attractive set with an interesting provenance. 12mo. i. xi, [3], 192pp; ii. [6] 378pp. Inscribed by Author(s).
