A transcript of Rev.Archiblad Clerk's gossipy diary of 1864 - transposed from the original in the West Highland Museum Fort William. Clerk wrote the biography of Coln. John Cameron of Fassifern and edited an edition of Ossian's Poems and the second edition of Logan's "Scottish Gael". Much local detail and reference to local families - especially Camerons, Kennedy's, McIntyre, McLachlan and McPhie. Good index. Clean and unmarked. See scans.

    Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. A beautiful book. The cover and spine feature gold lettering and detailing. The cover shows some light wear and fading as well as some fraying around the edges.Otherwise it is in good condition. The binding is sound. There are no missing pages. There is some tape over the hinges to reinforce the binding. There is some light foxing on the page edges as well as on the first and last few pages. A previous owner has made some notations in pencil in some places within the book. The page edges are gilt with a lovely gold.

He was killed in action at the Battle of Quatre-Bras, after which point his father was made a baronet in recognition of Cameron's military service.Contents include 'Monument at Kilmallie', 'Brief Remarks on the Clan System, and on the Character of the Highlanders', and 'Regiment Goes to Holland'.Written by the Rev.
