Condition: new. Pages: 24 Language: Russian, English. You are welcome to come across the pieces by Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninov, i.e. the "Vocalise" and "Polka W. R." arranged for two pianos. The "Vocalise" is dedicated to the distinguished Russian singer Antonina Nezhdanova, having been its first performer. There was also made the orchestra version by the author himself. The première was such a great success, that soon Rachmaninov's arrangements for different instruments started to appear. The "Polka" entered the concert repertoire of S. V. Rachmaninov, V. Gorovits and other distinguished pianists. The title "Polka W. R." was invented by Rachmaninov himself, being sure the piece belonged to his father's hand. Vasily Arkadyevich Rachmaninov used to perform the polka at home surrounded by his family. This circumstance must have misled the composer. Meanwhile Rachmaninov made the transcription of the polka "La Rieuse. Polka Badine" op. 303 by Ferdinand Beyer (1803-1863), having been known as the author of the "Piano School". The music of F. Beyer's Polka was published in two volumes "Reminiscences About Rachmaninov" (Muzyka, Moscow, 1988, edition 5, supplemented). Working at my own transcriptions for piano I was looking forward to facilitate their technique, thus attracting executants of different levels. I tried to adhere to the autograph as much as possible; however, it was necessary to inscribe some separate parts for the piano ensemble to sound expressively and bright. The first performance took place on January 26, 1908, in the Mariinsky Theatre of Petersburg at the symphony concert of A. Ziloti. The Moscow Bolshoy Theatre got the evidence of the Second symphony's premi`ere on February 2, 1908 at the fifth concert of the Philharmonic Society. The score and orchestra parts of the Symphony No. 2 were published by A. Gutheil. That edition has become the base of the present publication. All the apparent emendations are inserted, including the ones, having been made by the author himself on the separate sheets for proof-reading (preserved in the State M. I. Glinka Central Music Museum). If doubts were raised about some cases, they were checked according to the printed parts, having been also revised by the composer himself (see the letter to N. Morozov of June 21, 1908, Rachmaninov S. Letters. M.: Muzgiz, 1955. P. 346). 9790660047163.

Condition: new. Pages: 40 Language: Russian, English. I'd like to attract your attention to the concert collection of Sergei Rachmaninov's piano transcriptions. Those were his own original opuses or just other composers' music to have been arranged by the great Russian master directly for the concert stage. Actually all the transcriptions (besides several early ones in four hands) appeared after Rachmaninov's departure from Russia, when, as he desperately confessed "the eager for composing was lost". These brilliant miniatures very often became the true creams of crops at his performances. Rachmaninov's immense piano skill of different periods is revealed through these transcriptions recorded at studios and just performances. The composer's stylistic peculiarities are manifested in his transcriptions: saturated powerful timbre elaboration of piano facture, miraculous harmony, abundant improvisation in cadenzas, masterly audacious account. Meanwhile, Rachmaninov captivates one by his most delicate treatment of any other author's original message, e. g. his last creation - the transcription of R I. Tchaikovsky's "Lullaby" (op. 16, No. 1), the manuscript of which is indicated August 12, 1941. The title of "Polka W. R." belongs to Rachmaninov himself. The composer was sure his father Wassily (old spelling of Vasily) Arkadievich to have created this miniature. Of course, Vasily Arkadievich enjoyed playing it to his family, but the real author of this piece (called in fact "La Rieuse. Polca Badine" op. 303) was Ferdinand Beyer (1803-1863).
