One of 500 numbered copies, issued exclusively to subscribers; "the plates used for the illustrations were destroyed after printing" (colophon). Illustrated with 25 two-colour pornographic illustrations in the text. Louis Pine-à-L'Envers was a pseudonym of the French poet and chansonnier Louis Protat (1819-1881), who is today chiefly remembered for his erotic writings. One of his best-known works is Serrefesse, first published in 1864. The book was later placed in the notorious Enfer ("Hell") collection of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the library's restricted section for prohibited an erotic literature. Pagination & size: (6), 85 pp. 20 × 14.5 cm. Weight: 0.300 kg. Contemporary half brown morocco, with marbled paper-covered boards and matching corners, gilt decoration to the front board and spine in the Art Deco style. Minor rubbing to the board edges.
