First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. The first printing of the four volume set, published by Weed, Parsons, and Company ( Albany ) commencing in 1849, finishing in1851. Arranged under the direction of the Honourable Christopher Morgan, Secretary of State. Long deemed one of the most essential efforts to collect those materials most seminal to Colonial New York. Illustrated with charts, maps and documentary reproduction, a considerable undertaking. The large fold out map in volume one ( reprinting Lucini's engraving of the Northeast from 1631 ) is printed upon a relatively delicate paper that would have been quite susceptible to tearing. All four volumes in crimson goatskin ( Morocco ) edge tooled in gold, page edges marbled. A very good set with page foxing and a bit of wear to each volume. ( There is some wear to leather at rear base of volume one, scratches to rear of volumes two and four, and ear to base of volume four's spine. ) A lovely binding on an important regional history.
