Item Description: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2017. Paperback. Book Condition: New. 229 x 152 mm. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.Hopkins witch-finding career began in March 1644 and lasted until his retirement in 1647. He and his associates were responsible for more people being hanged for witchcraft than in the previous 100 years, and were solely responsible for the increase in witch trials during those years. He is believed to have been responsible for the deaths of 300 women between the years 1644 and 1646. It has been estimated that all of the English witch trials between the early 15th and late 18th centuries resulted in fewer than 500 executions for witchcraft. Therefore, presuming the number executed as a result of investigations by Hopkins and his colleague John Stearne is at the lower end of the various estimates, their efforts accounted for about 60 per cent of the total; in the 14 months of their crusade Hopkins and Stearne sent to the gallows more people than all the other witch-hunters in England of the previous 160 years. Item Description: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2016. Paperback. Book Condition: New. 229 x 152 mm. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.In The Discovery of Witches, Matthew Hopkins - the Witch Finder General of England during the early 1600s - details the process by which he found and captured suspected witches. Hopkins treatise is comprised of answers to various queries he had received by members of the public curious about his investigatory techniques in finding witches. This book answers a total of fourteen distinct queries, with replies ranging from a few sentences to a few paragraphs in length. The book is an illustrative portrayal of society at the time, which was fervently given to superstitions about the powers of witchcraft. At three hundred women killed, the efforts of Hopkins and his assistant John Stearne were prolific: his tenure as Witch Finder General led to more executions by hanging than any other witch finder before or since. Born to an apparently modest family, Hopkins rose to prominence as a young man. Using his inheritance to gain position as a gentleman, he rapidly gained favor within England s Royal Court, in which he demonstrated his knowledge of witches and their behaviors. He died aged no older than twenty-eight, likely of tuberculosis. Accorded status as a famous figure, Hopkins encountered opposition to his witch finding. That his investigations required scant evidence to secure death sentences greatly dismayed figures in the Church of England. Today, historians judge Hopkins as an evil man who opportunistically encouraged and took advantage of unfounded suspicions to advance his own reputation and fame. Item Description: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2016. Paperback. Book Condition: New. 229 x 152 mm. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.Harris would have been a rich man today if his father had not invested in U.S. government bonds in the late 1960s. The Treasury promptly paid the interest contractually due on those bonds, but high rates of inflation and interest in the 1970s and early 1980s reduced their prices and wiped out most of their purchasing power. Instead of inheriting a fortune, Harris received just enough to buy a midsized automobile. That his father had worked so long and so hard for so little saddened Harris. If only his father had understood a few simple facts: when the supply of money increases faster than the demand for it, prices rise and inflation ensues. When inflation increases, so too do nominal interest rates. And when interest rates increase, the prices of bonds (and many other types of assets that pay fixed sums) fall. Jorge s father didn t lack intelligence. Many people, even some well-educated ones, do not understand the basics of banking, money, and finance. And they and their loved ones pay for it, sometimes dearly. Arthur knows that all too well. Her grandparents didn t understand the significance of portfolio diversification (the tried-and-true rule that you shouldn t put all of your eggs in one basket), so they invested their entire life savings in a single company called Enron. They lost everything (except their Social Security checks) after that bloated behemoth went bankrupt in December 2001. Instead of lavishing him with gifts, Arthur s grandparents drained resources away from their grandson by frequently seeking helps from Arthur s parents. When the grandparents died-without life insurance, yet another mistake-Arthur s parents had to pay big bucks for their last expenses. This book contains proven steps and strategies on how to improve your understanding towards money, banking and finance system and help you to master money saving and investing habits. Your money making capabilities depends on your understanding of the finance system and banking. Bookseller Inventory # APC9781541229051

As this reprint is from very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible. Fold-outs, if any, are not part of the book. If the original book was published in multiple volumes then this reprint is of only one volume, not the whole set. This paperback book is SEWN, where the book block is actually sewn (smythe sewn/section sewn) with thread before binding which results in a more durable type of paperback binding. It can also be open wide. The pages will not fall out and will be around for a lot longer than normal paperbacks. This print on demand book is printed on high quality acid-free paper. Item Description: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform, United States, 2016. Paperback. Book Condition: New. 229 x 152 mm. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. Harris would have been a rich man today if his father had not invested in U.S. government bonds in the late 1960s.
