Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Isabella Beecher Hooker, Elizabeth S. Bladen, Olympia Brown, and Josephine J. Griffing. The suffragistsÕ memorial argued that the 1870 ratification of the 15th Amendment, which granted voting rights to citizens of the United States regardless of Òrace, color, or previous condition of servitude,Ó should also grant women the right to vote. Carpenter and the Senate denied that the 15th Amendment applies to womenÕs suffrage and rejected the memorial. 5 in. by 9in. With caption title as issued. In November of 1872, Susan B. Anthony registered and voted for Ulysses S. Grant in the presidential election. She was arrested, tried, and convicted, despite the fact that she also argued her right to vote under the 14th Amendment.
