hardcover, 6" x 9½", with dust jacket 270 pages Seventeen b&w illustrations. In this remarkable memoir, Victor Goddard tells of his early flying assignment in charge of supporting Lord Gort's British Expeditionary Force in France. He vividly describes the blitzkrieg that broke out on May 10th, and the seventeen hectic days while he remained in France until Gort received the order to evacuate the BEF from Dunkirk; he also describes the appalling losses sustained by the air forces in France in their gallant defence of the ground troops. At great personal risk, Goddard flew back to England on the 27th to convince Whitehall of the difficulties in evacuating so many men - "send anything that can cross the channel' he pleaded. Ours is an ex-library copy in transparent protective covering, with usual stamps, stickers, etc. 2 photos missing. Some underlining to early pages. Lean to spine. Some stains to pages (not affecting legibility). FAIR book in FAIR unclipped dust jacket.
