Hardcover. Condition: Good. This is a beautiful, illustrated edition of Swann's Way, the first volume of Proust's seven volume continuous novel, In Search of Lost Time This is the translation by C.K. Scott Moncrieff (1889-1930), a Scottish writer and translator who was best known for his translation of Proust's work. In addition, this volume includes an introduction by Justin O'Brien (1906-1968), a professor of French at Columbia University. His biographies and translations of notable French authors, including Gide and Camus, were responsible in large part for popularising French writers in the U.S.A. This edition also includes beautiful illustrations by Bernard Lamotte. This copy is in good condition. The fabric on the spine is faded, and there is some discolouration to the fabric on the back cover. Internally, the book is in excellent condition, with a tight binding. The slipcover is in poor condition. There is significant wear to the edges and corners, and one end has separated, though it still holds the book.
