Scarce edition of Kleist's narrative of a doomed and unstable transgressive romance set amid the tumult of the Haitian revolution, illustrated with frightful lithographs by tormented Austrian Symbolist Alfred Kubin. 8.5'' x 5.5''. Original green boards backed in cream cloth with printed title label on front board. Printed as the eight book in the "Immergrünen Bücher" series by Buchdruckerei E. Haberland, Leipzig, in Leibniz Fraktur. Illustrated with four lithographs by Kubin. 52, [2] pages. Light edgewear and scuffing; a few faint dampstains to boards. Small bookseller label mounted to rear paste-down, with faint toning transferred to preceding pages.

Orig.-Halbleinen mit Rückentitel in schwarz und Original-Titelschildchen auf Vorderdeckel; 52 S. mit 4 handgedruckten Originalsteinzeichnungen von Alfred Kubin, davon eines als Frontispitz; dieses Buch wurde als achter Band der 'Immergrünen Bücher' von der Buchdruckerei E. Haberland, Leipzig, in der Leibniz-Fraktur gedruckt. Die Lithographien wurden von H. Birkholz, Berlin, mit der Hand gedruckt. - Vorderdeckel etwas berieben und bestossen; kleiner Fleck auf unterem Rand; Papier am breiten Rand vereinzelt etwas braunfleckig; Insgesamt ein gutes Exemplar; 190 g.
