Ignaz von Kürsinger (1795-1861), Pfleger zu Mittersill, und der Wiener Dr. Anton Ruthner (1819-1897), waren die Initiatoren der Erstersteigung des Großvenedigers (3674 m), der "weltalten Majestät". Bereits 1828 versuchte Erzherzog Johann unter Führung des Försters Paul Rohregger eine Besteigung, das Unternehmen wurde jedoch, Rohregger wurde von einer Lawine mitgerissen, abgebrochen. Am 3. September 1841 erreichten 26 Teilnehmer dieser 40-köpfigen "Expedition" (u.a. Führer Joseph Schwab, Ignaz von Kürsinger, Paul Rohregger, Anton von Ruthner und Spitaler) zum ersten Mal den Gipfel des Großvenedigers (vgl. das prächtige Frontispiz mit der Darstellung dieses Ereignisses). Inhalt: I. Abtheilung: Die erste Ersteigung des Groß-Venedigers am 3. September 1841. II. Abtheilung: Beobachtungen bezüglich des Einflusses der verdünnten Luft und des stärkeren Lichteinflusses in Gebirgshöhen auf den menschlichen Organismus. III. Abtheilung: Der Obersulzbacher-Gletscher in physikalischer und geologischer Beziehung. Anhang: Franz Spitaler: Zweite Besteigung des Groß-Venedigers am 6. September 1842.
