Mrs. Hunt was the director and president of the Hudson River Conservation Society.As the wife of Lyndon B. Johnson, Lady Bird Johnson [1912-2007] was First Lady of the United States from 1963 to 1969. Notably well-educated for a woman of her time, she proved a capable manager and a shrewd investor. After marrying Lyndon B. Johnson in 1934, she used a modest inheritance to bankroll his congressional campaign and then ran his office while he served in the Navy. Her purchase of a television station made the couple millionaires. As First Lady, she broke new ground by interacting directly with Congress, employing her own press secretary and making a solo electioneering tour. Lady Bird Johnson was an advocate for beautifying the nation's cities and highways. The Highway Beautification Act was known as Lady Bird's Bill. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest U.S. civilian honors.

A remarkable artifact, physically tied to one of the most powerful moments in US history. Johnson was sworn in aboard Air Force One at Dallas Love Field, just over an hour after John F. Kennedy's death was announced at Parkland Memorial Hospital. From the archive of the PIX Agency, an American photo house that acted as an intermediary between emigre photographers (as well as those still living in Europe) and the American magazine and newspaper market between 1935-1969. 11 x 8 inches. Johnson." This copy is inscribed by President Lyndon Johnson to Irving Frank, the presidents personal tailor and owner of Sol Frank Uniform Company. Johnson valued his privacy, especially when he was away from the White House and ordered Frank to "stay out of the newspapers," if he was going to be his tailor. Frank provided clothes for the entire Johnson family, members of the White House staff and even a suit for Australian Prime Minister Harold Holt. As the Vietnam war escalated, Frank used his White House contacts to secure a contract with the Pentagon to provide military uniforms for soldiers. The two remained close until Johnson's death in 1973. First edition of A White House Diary, signed by President Lyndon Johnson to his tailor, Irving Frank. (illustrator). Signed.

The recipient, Jean Dalrymple (1902-1998) was the dynamic producer and director of theater and light-opera at Manhattan's City Center. Dalrymple began her career in Vaudeville, appearing with James Cagney and Carey Grant in the early 1930s. She was a founding member of the American Theatre Wing, the theatre service organization. She worked over the years as a personal manager for the likes of Leopold Stokowski, Mary Martin, Jos Iturbi, Andre Kostalanetz, Nathan Milstein, and Lily Pons. She began her work at City Center with its founding in 1943, serving as a board member and publicist. Her productions there from the 1940s through the 1960s were a revitalizing influence on the whole New York theatre scene. In 1951, Jean Dalrymple married Major-General Philip deWitt Ginder, commander of the Thunderbirds in Korea. She was a friend to Presidents and entertainment personalities throughout the world.

Swearingen, the president of Standard Oil of Indiana and one of the most influential oil executives of the 20th century. When he became CEO in 1960, he deemed Indiana Standard Oil to be a "second-rate company." Through aggressive research and oil exploration, Indiana Standard quickly became one of the most profitable companies in the United States. Swearingen was vocal about his dislike for federal regulators, often supporting Republicans who shared his views on limited government. In retirement, he was a close friend of presidents Gerald R. Ford and Richard Nixon. Swearingen died in 2007, survived by his wife, Bonnie Swearingen, who passed away in 2020. Inscribed on mount, below image, in the First Lady's hand: "To Deke De Loach on a Memorable Day - with our affection and appreciation," signed by both and dated Christmas, 1965. Not examined out of frame, b…ut sight condition is excellent, with no fading or soil; frame is apparently original, though backing appears to have been replaced at some point in the recent past. Exceptional inscribed portrait of Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson as President and First Lady; almost certainly taken on the occasion of LBJ's signing of the landmark Immigration Act in October of 1965 - other depictions of the event, which took place on Liberty Island, show him in the same dark jacket with an apparently identical pocket square. The current image apparently uncommon; we can find no direct analogue in the rich visual archive of LBJ portraiture available on the on-line portal of the LBJ Library or elsewhere. The photographer is uncredited (at least as far as we can tell from examination outside the frame). The inscription is to Deputy Associate Director of the FBI Cartha "Deke" De Loach, a close confidant of both LBJ and J. Edgar Hoover. De Loach was a powerful figure in the national law enforcement community and reputedly had a very close working relationship with Johnson; New York Times reporter Timothy Weiner once described him as ".always at LBJ's beck and call, night and day.he was a talented political hatchet man, a trusted deputy to Hoover.[and] crucial to intelligence investigations conducted during the Johnson presidency." President John F. Kennedy delivered his Inaugural Address on January 20th, 1961 from the eastern portico of the United States Capitol. In his opening words, he greeted Vice President Johnson, President Eisenhower, Vice President Nixon, and President Truman, all of whom were in attendance in addition to notable literary figures Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, and Robert Frost who recited his poem âThe Gift Outrightâ at Kennedyâs request. The first to be delivered to a televised audience in color, Kennedyâs address is considered among the best presidential inaugural speeches in American history. Kennedy and his speech writer Ted Sorensen studied the speech-writing of President Abraham Lincoln when crafting the address which included Kennedyâs resonating request, âAnd so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.â Following the address, Kennedy was joined on the platform by his predecessors Harry S. Truman and Dwight D. Eisenhower, and future presidents Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, and Gerald Ford; notably the largest gathering of the âpresidential fraternityâ in American history. The Pre-Inaugural Ceremonies, Inaugural Speech, and Proceedings were all diligently documented by White House photographer Robert L. Knudsen, who chronicled almost three decades of major White House events including the 1948 and 1952 elections of President Truman, the autopsy of President Kennedy in 1963, and President Nixon's 1974 farewell in the wake of the Watergate-scandal.
