Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. P/B. 56 pages, condition is Very Good, minor edge wear. 6th revised edition. In the years before the Second World War there was a growing danger that the historic battlefield and its surroundings, which had become a place of pilgrimage for Scots at home and abroad, would fall a prey to growing development and commercial enterprise. To safeguard this in some way, in 1937 the late Mr Alexander Munro of Leanach Farm presented two pieces of the battlefield to The National Trust for Scotland, to be held on behalf of the nation. This gift was followed in 1944 by the late Hector Forbes of Culloden, who generously gave the main Culloden memorials (described in Chapter II) into the Trust's keeping. It was in 1959 that Mr lan Munro of Leanach Farm added to his father's gift, and thus made possible the linking together of some of the Trust's properties at Culloden. In any mention of the Battlefield it would be remiss not to pay tribute to the great work done for the Culloden memorials by the Gaelic Society of Inverness, and particularly by its Secretary, the late Mr A. N. Nicolson, m.b.e. For many years before they became Trust properties the memorials were maintained in dignity by the Society.
