Comes with three fascinating A4 sheets of typed material relating to pollen by Dr. D.J. Kelsall. The first presents a classification of the form, size, texture and shape of pollen grains. The second lists 20 common British plants and trees (eg. White Clover) and provides detail on the type, size, texture and shape of pollen associated with each. The last presents a table of 38 plants and trees and the "Frequency of occurence of pollen from honey plants in 100 samples of honey selected at random from apiaries in Gt. Britain, extending from Shetland to Southern England, Season 1950." This edition of Dorothy Hodges landmark work benefits from having the content of the first edition plus the addenda specifically drawn up for this, the 1974 edition.

To protect the water-colour paintings, the plates are interleaved with tissue, and should not be left open for long periods in strong light. The pollen colours are arranged in sequence according to normal dates of the flowering of plants. There is also a page of hand-coloured samples showing artificially made pollen pellets and 30 plates of pollen grain drawings.
