Trade Paperback. Condition: Used - Very Good. In 2002 the Netherlands Architecture Institute awarded its first NAI Prize to design firm MVRDV. Given in honor of the best building by a Dutch architect under 40 years of age, this prize was again awarded in 2004 under the title of the AM-NAI Prize. 'Fresher Facts' presents the four nominated projects through detailed drawings and text, and explains the context in which they were created. Contributions by various members of the jury--Herman Hertzberger, Bernard Tschumi and Aaron Betsky, to name just a few--present a snapshot of the work of the youngest generation of Dutch architects. Essay by Ole Bouman. Essays by Herman Hertzberger, Anna Tilroe and Bernard Tschumi. Foreword by Aaron Betsky. Very nice clean, tight copy free of any marks.

Trade Paperback. Condition: Used - Very Good. The work of the architect Herman Hertzberger is generally classified as structuralist. The implication here is that each component of the building is treated individually at the expense of the whole, the total form. In this book, which documents eleven projects from the years 1990 1995, Hertzberger analyses his development and concludes that he has reached the next stage of his work. His concern now extends to the potential of large parts of buildings to summarize the whole, bringing with it a more urbane approach. This necessary step ostensibly signifies a break with earlier work, yet the distinction vital to structuralism between âcompetenceâ (a formâs capacity for interpretation) and âperformanceâ (how it is interpreted in a given situation) is still intact as the basic premise in his work, and now serves him as the key to accommodating the unexpected. The back of book has a minor stain. The pages are not affected by stained.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Lessons for Students in Architecture, written by Dutch architect and educator Herman Hertzberger (born 1932), was first published in 1991 as an elaborated version of lectures Hertzberger had given since 1973 at Delft University of Technology. Since its first edition, the book has become a classic for students the world over; this immensely successful volume has gone through many reprints and has also been published in Japanese, German, Italian, Portuguese, Taiwanese, Dutch, Greek, Chinese, French, Polish and Persian. This new edition brings the classic book back into print. Lessons for Students in Architecture features Hertzberger putting the background to his work and the ideas underlying it into his own words, as he presents a broad spectrum of subjects and designs, with his practical experience and his evaluation of the use of these buildings serving as a leitmotif. More than 750 illustrations give a broad insight into Hertzberger's "library" and a stimulating impression of the influences and sources of inspiration for one of the Netherlands' major postwar architects. Rather than supplying the reader with design recipes, Hertzberger's Lessons for Students in Architecture provides an essential source of inspiration to anyone interested in the architectural design process. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Trade Paperback. Condition: New. The existing building of the NHL University, designed by the architect Abe Bonnema and dating from 1984, is an amorphous presence with its small-scale combination of building masses. Architectuurstudio hh (Herman Hertzberger) expanded it with a new building of the same size, leaving Bonnemas building intact. The new enfolds the existing on all sides as an inclusive framework, like the frame of a picture. It is lifted into space so that the existing structure is left visible and the grounds can continue uninterrupted beneath it.
