Hardcover. Condition: New condition. Dust Jacket Condition: New dust jacket. DTS (illustrator). First Edition (so stated). Salt Lake City, Utah: CMOE Press, 2014. Signed by Tony I. Herrera directly on the front free endpaper (his signature only, NOT personalized to anyone). SIGNED copies are SCARCE. NEW in a NEW dust jacket. Near PERFECT condition (only a tiny bit of very mild shelfwear to the jacket -- like you sometimes find in any new book store). NO chips, tears, creases or fading. Bright and shiny. Square and tight. Sharp corners. Pages are fresh, crisp, clean and unmarked -- obviously never read. Bound in the original gilt-stamped black boards. From the dust jacket: "Why is it that we as bright, articulate, and caring human beings have such difficulty holding effective conversations regarding important issues? Do you, like many people, vacillate between avoiding emotionally charged issues and going into attack mode in order to win and dominate discussions and debates? Are you tired of coaching communication models that seem to rely on disguised manipulation instead of clear and candid dialogue? Courageous Coaching Conversations is a leadership fable that uses a unique approach making you the center of the story to present key steps in preparing for and successfully navigating through the challenging and important communications we all face. Whether you are a leader or an individual contributor in your organization, there will undoubtedly be many times where you will find yourself in a difficult situation. These situations come in all shapes and sizes, and typically involve people with different goals, opinions, and interests, in varying kinds of work relationships boss-to-subordinate, peer-to-peer, or even subordinate-to-boss. These situations impact results and the performance level of the person, team, or organization, as well as the emotions of the people involved. The inability of people to effectively connect in these situations leads to an overall dissatisfaction in relationships, team culture, performance, and results. To avoid these pitfalls, people need the skills to have a courageous coaching conversation. You know that you are in need of a courageous coaching conversation when you encounter the following situations: -You need to get beyond the surface level of the situation and understand the heart of the matter. -Your messages are not being received or are misunderstood by the other person or persons involved. -Your ideas are met with continuous resistance. -People are not following through on assignments and commitments. -Controversial and uncomfortable situations are not being addressed. -Problems remain unresolved. Research reveals that there are some very predictable traps that we fall into when discussing challenging issues or topics with others. This innate reaction is tied to the fight-or-flight response. Regardless of who we are, these very predictable patterns emerge during important, complex, and sensistive conversations. Understanding what these patterns are and how to craft more productive conversations is the goal of this book. The concepts underlying courageous conversations aren t abstract, and they aren t theoretical. They re really, really simple. The beauty of this framework is its simplicity. Put yourself in Adrian s shoes and go on a journey of discovery that will guide you toward developing your own courageous coaching conversations. Walk with Adrian and discover how the Courageous Coaching Conversations Model will help you: -Focus on the issue or problem rather than the personality of the person. -Be direct, honest, and open, but not overbearing, when communicating with others. -Learn how to foster conditions that will enable people to act with high levels of candor, respect, and responsibility as they engage in difficult, complex issues.". Signed by Tony I. Herrera. First Edition (so stated). Hardcover. New condition/New dust jacket. 8vo. xiv, 127pp. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.

This 4-stanza poem is annotated in type by the poet as "From 'Around and Back' World Tour Poems To - Helen Keller". The photograph is rubbed, soiled and slightly creased. The mat is soiled with faint glue stains along the right edge of the photo and with a pinhole centered at the top of the mat. Good. A close friend of Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan, the poet, activist and actress Edna Porter edited the book "Double Blossoms: Helen Keller Anthology". The work was an anthology of short works about Helen Keller written by renowned writers. Several of the Harlem Renaissance poets contributed to the book. Most famous for his socialist political cartoons, the American cartoonist and author Arthur Henry "Art" Young (1866-1943) contributed extensively to the magazine "The Masses" between 1911 and 1917. Young was also close to Helen Keller, who was a socialist and shared his politics. We have been unable to locate any evidence that Edna Porter's poem "Lure of the Sea" was ever published. "The Sea, The Sea is calling me! / The Sea, The Sea comes after me / To sing a song and laugh with me / I know the Sea The Sea knows me.".

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Offsetting in the gutters of front and rear covers. ; Signed by the author on the front free endpaper. Book is in excellent condition. "Always, in large things and small, there is this intense aliveness, this vivid interest, this quick grasp and eager response. Miss Keller quotes a number of beautiful tributes to Anne Sullivan Macy, and all that she herself writes of her is beautiful. But the mere existence of such a journal as this is the one great and comprehensive tribute. Here in our own day is the true Pygmalion, more beautiful, deeper, more significant, than the ancient myth. It was the touch of life that the young teacher brought to the deaf and blind child half a century ago, and that touch goes on to other prisoned clay, and is itself undying." [NY Times] ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 313 pages; Signed by Author. Signed by Author(s).

First edition of Keller's autobiography. Octavo, original cloth, illustrated with plates from photographs. Signed by the author in pencil on the front free endpaper, "Helen Keller," beneath her name embossed in braille. In very good condition with light toning throughout the textblock, lacking front free endpaper. Foreword by Nella Braddy. Helen Keller was an author, political activist, and lecturer. She was the first deaf-blind person to earn a bachelor of arts degree. The story of how Keller's teacher, Anne Sullivan, broke through the isolation imposed by a near complete lack of language, allowing the girl to blossom as she learned to communicate, has become widely known through the dramatic depictions of the play and film The Miracle Worker. Her birthplace in West Tuscumbia, Alabama, is now a museum[1] and sponsors an annual "Helen Keller Day". Her birthday on June 27 is commemorated as Helen Keller Day in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania and was authorized at the federal level by presidential proclamation by President Jimmy Carter in 1980, the 100th anniversary of her birth.

First edition of this small book of wisdom by Helen Keller. Octavo, original cloth. Presentation copy, warmly inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Mrs Warren Monk, whose sweet faith is a bond between us. Affectionately, Helen Keller, July 24th, 1940." In near fine condition. Uncommon signed and inscribed. Helen Keller became a well-traveled lecturer, activist, and prolific writer despite the rare illness she contracted at 19 months of age which left her both blind and deaf. Much of Keller's success was attributed to the 49-year relationship she had with governess and companion Anne Sullivan who initially taught Keller to communicate by spelling words into her hand. In 1904, at the age of 24, Keller graduated from Radcliffe College of Harvard University, becoming the first deaf-blind person to earn a bachelor of arts degree. She went on to become a world-famous speaker and author, best remembered for her work as an advocate for persons with disabilities, the deaf community, and women's suffrage.

Housed in a custom 1/4 green morocco leather and cloth slipcase with a gilt-decorated and lettered spine, and a cloth chemise. Helen Keller was 11 when her brother Phillips was born in 1891.
