Si Godissart de Cari est un lithographe médiocre, c'est un excellent car…icaturiste. Dans un style qui s'inspire des Anglais, il se moque de ces derniers et des ridicules de son temps. S'il effleure parfois la grivoiserie ou la scatologie, il faut dire que la plupart de ses planches, presque toujours coloriées, sont des plus agréables à regarder » (Inventaire du fonds français après 1800, IX, p 220).Godissart de Cari, caricaturiste obscur, est surtout connu par le Musée grotesque, recueil de caricatures publié par Martinet sous la Restauration. Repéré pour la première fois en 1803 comme « ex-militaire, amateur » lors du dépôt légal d'une estampe (Collection de Vinck), il fut actif de 1817 à 1830.
