Cloth backed map is bright and clear, with light foxing and tanning. Slight creases to corners. Hinges are cracked, with some exposed netting and a loose binding. Spine strip is missing. Boards have been heavily rub worn with noticeable shelf wear to corners and edges. Corners are bumped and a noticeably frayed and spine ends are crushed, with some small splits and chips. Tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean. Water marks to boards and spine.

A member of an old British family named Say moved to Scotland, where he adopted the surname Sayton or Seyton upon receiving a grant of land in East Lothian. The name has gone through several spelling changes since that time, including Setone, Setton, Settone, Seytoun, Seaton, Saeton, and Ceton, before Seton was finally adopted by all the principal branches of the family.
