Mottled half calf in contemporary style with gilt decoration on spine and mounted label with title on front boards. , A significant work of its time that served to publicize Spain?s architectural legacy. The dazzling lithographs, based on initial drawings by renowned Galician painter Jenaro Pérez Villaamil, are a high example of the form. Villaamil, born in 1807 in Ferrol, was a key painter in the Spanish Romantic movement. Over the course of his life, his art would earn significant acclaim, eventually securing him the very first professorial position of landscape painting with the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. Not only did he provide most of the drawings for Espana?s lithographs, but he was also its artistic director and promoter. Villaamil died in Madrid in 1854.
