La première partie traite du feu et des dispositions devant la cheminée pour augmenter la chaleur; la seconde, des dispositions des nouvelles cheminées pour empêcher la fumée et la troisième concerne les constructions des cheminées et la technique. Barbier (IV, 96-97) a rajouté inutilement un "H" à mécanique. Défauts à la reliure: mors marqué, coiffe et queue légèrement arasées, traces de mouillure ancienne en marge, épidermures. Les planches sont parfois abîmées (manque au centre de la 5 et une partie de la 7) sinon, elles sont marquées au niveau du pliage. Er studiert die Brechung von Licht, befasst sich mit Sensoren (Barometer) und Thermometer, und entwickelt Öfen und Kamine mit doppeltem Auslosung (Chartreuse Kamine). Er schreibt hier über die Kunst der Mechanik des Feuers zu erhöhen und über der Ertrag (die Kosten des erhitzens) der neuen Kamine zu verringern. Rückenkanten und Ecken bestossen, Einband stellenweise leicht berieben; Papier leicht gebräunt (Titelblatt und Tafeln stärker) und stellenweise leicht stockfleckig. First edition in English, being a translation of Gauger's translation of Mécanique du feu (Paris, 1713), with additions; 12mo, pp. [12], 7-161, [12]; 9 engraved folding copperplates ( the first two slightly dampstained at the top, 1 other with a short repair in the upper corner - no loss - and one with a ragged lower margin - again, no loss); advertisement leaf in neat facsimile; joints starting, but in all a nice copy in contemporary full paneled calf. The book was reprinted in London by Senex and Curll in 1736, and another edition appeared in Paris as late as 1749.
